I know it has been awhile since I last posted anything, but its been a crazy year, home computer crashed, internet issues etc. but thankfully we seem to have sorted out most of the issues and you can look forward to more regular posts from now on.
The first project I have to share with you this morning is an altered wooden canvas I made using the Prima Stationers Desk range of papers. On the 25 March this year we lost my mother in law and the 2 March this year was the 10yr 'anniversary' of my dads passing (so March was not a good month for us),anyway I decided to make something to honour their memories.
This first canvas measures 20x15cm and is about an inch 'deep'. I started by covering the entire canvas with black gesso, then I cut pieces from the Stationers desk 'fine print' paper for the inside of the canvas as well as the outside edges. I distressed all the pieces with black ink and then added a little texture paste and micro beads to the outside edges. I cut out 2 of the cutout pieces from the 'love letter' sheet of paper and layered them(after I distressed them of course) onto the inside of the canvas.
I took an old doiley that I bought at a second hand store and coffee stained it,once it was dry I draped it from the middle of the top of the canvas to the bottom right, I glued it down with some gel meduim.
I found a small embroidery hoop and I painted it with black gesso and added some texture paste to the outside of the hoop. I used a piece of the "red romance" paper for the inside of the hoop and again distressed the paper before gluing it to the hoop. I covered a tiny canvas(5x5cm) with a little piece of the "red ink" paper and added a pic of my children with my mom in law. I glued my mini canvas to the left side of my hoop with gel meduim. I stuck a small rose, a teapot charm and a butterfly that I cut from one of the papers to the top of my tiny canvas, I then added some roses I made from the left over papers as well as a metal clock that I painted up a bit to give it a grundged look. I glued the hoop to the right side of my canvas at a bit of an angle with my doiley draped behind the hoop. I cut up another piece of the doiley and glued it to the inside left side of my canvas, then painted and grundged up a piece of a lattice style chipboard I had left from another project and glued this it the side of the canvas. I added a resin frame with another pic of my mom in law and some roses, a metal heart, a tiny spool and a resin clock to the bottom left of the canvas. I painted a wooden word memories and glued it under the embroidery hoop.
I added lots of distressing with white gesso and some sprays to the whole canvas, I really wanted it to have an old grundgey feeling.
I glued 2 wooden door knobs to the bottom of the canvas so it could stand (after I had painted and distressed them of course) and another door knob to the top of the canvas.
Ok so now for the second canvas, I again used the back of a wooden canvas, this one is a little smaller 6x6inches. Again I painted the entire canvas with black gesso then cut out a piece of paper from the Prima Coffee break collection "Fill it to the rim" for the inside of the canvas,I cut pieces from the Stationers Desk "Red ink" paper for inside and outside sides of the canvas.
I also used a normal little 8x8cm canvas which I painted black and then covered with the same paper I used on the inside of the wooden canvas.
Then I just had fun, I raided my husbands garage for some washers and I found a little light bulb, I dug in my stash for some Prima zip pulls, a few cogs and a whole lot of chipboard pieces. I distressed and grundged up everything using black and white gesso, some sprays a little paint and finally texture paste and micro beads.
I glued my 8x8 canvas to the middle of the wooden canvas, I then layered my light bulb with some washers and cogs and glued it to the inside of the left side of the wooden canvas. I distressed one of my favourite photos of my dad and matted it on a piece of black cardstock and then onto a piece of paper left from the stationers desk collection, I glued a chipboard lightbulb with some cogs in it to the left of my little canvas then added my photo with I lifted with foamsquares. I then just had fun layering all my other pieces, I added a rusted metal heart piece that had been lying in my stash for ages, one of the Prima zipper pulls and that was it. I also glued some chipboard pieces to the bottom left and top right edges of my wooden canvas. And then I just distressed everything AGAIN, I added some texture paste and micro beads to the edges of the wooden canvas too.
I found 2 spools that I had some lace on, I painted them with black gesson then added some more Prima paper which I distressed. I glued the spools to the bottom of the canvas so it could stand.
I got my husband to pull apart a tin opener so I could add the 'handle' to the top of the canvas, I layered the handle with some washers and again distressed everything.
I had so much fun working on these canvases and have them proudly displayed in our home.

The following project I created awhile ago but just haven't had a chance to upload it yet.
I am one of those people who loves to alter things, so on a trip to Durban we were walking through one of the many little Chinese shops and we came across a photo frame, at first glance I knew I could do something with this frame. So my wonderfully patient husband went and stood in the extremely long que and got it for me.
So, it was a white plastic frame which I painted with black gesso, then sprayed with glimmer mists and added some metallic paints to highlight the details.
I used the Prima Time travellers range, the 6x4 ATC pad for the pages of the little mini I created for the inside of the frame.
I used 5 of the ATC cards and glued them to envelopes and then glued the envelopes together to form a concertina type mini. I dug through my stash and found a few Prima flowers which I used with a resin frame and added an old button, key and some seam binding. I haven't gone crazy on the embellishments in this little mini as I didn't want it to be too chunky and I'm also not sure what photos I intend to use on it.
For some reason the photos got a bit mixed up when I uploaded them, but hope you can still get the idea of the frame.
